Description:

Artisan Alchemy Gallery, a creative and design-focused gallery located in the historic Jewellery Quarter of Birmingham, is seeking a part-time Gallery Assistant to join their small, dedicated team. This role offers the opportunity to work in a vibrant, artistic environment that showcases high-quality British jewellery, design-led furniture, and homeware curated by jewellery artist Michele White. The position is a job-share, requiring 2–3 working days per week between 11 am and 5 pm on a Thursday–Wednesday rota, including alternate Saturdays.

This is a multifaceted role that blends traditional gallery responsibilities with an emphasis on enhancing online presence through social media, e-commerce, and SEO. The successful candidate will engage directly with visitors, provide excellent customer service, and also take a proactive approach to promoting the gallery's offerings online. Independent working, strong organisational skills, and the ability to maintain accurate records are key to succeeding in this position.

Key Responsibilities:

• Open and close the gallery, managing the secure handling and display of precious jewellery.

• Welcome visitors warmly and deliver excellent customer service in person, via phone, and through email communication.

• Create, schedule, and publish engaging content across social media platforms such as Instagram, Facebook, and X (formerly Twitter).

• Maintain and optimise the gallery's Shopify e-commerce platform, ensuring products are updated, the website remains user-friendly, and its visual consistency is upheld.

• Liaise with designer-makers to keep product details accurate and up to date.

• Support day-to-day administrative duties while ensuring the gallery remains neat and inviting.

• Manage jewellery and furniture inventory, logging new arrivals and ensuring display labels are precise.

• Book and promote gallery-hosted workshops and meeting room hire.

• Contribute to blogs and newsletters to further promote the gallery and its events.

• Work collaboratively with a colleague in a job-share capacity, ensuring smooth handovers and clear communication.

Candidate Requirements:

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.

• Strong appreciation for art, craft, and design.

• Interest and confidence in managing social media content.

• Experience in e-commerce platforms (preferably Shopify), SEO, and content creation is advantageous.

• Prior experience in customer-facing roles, galleries, or retail is preferred.

• Ability to work independently, stay organised, and manage time efficiently.

• Attention to detail and an eye for presentation.

• Flexible, friendly, and proactive, with a collaborative mindset.

• Willingness to work alternate Saturdays as part of the rota.
