Geospatial Technical Lead

Description:

The Environment Agency is seeking a Geospatial Technical Lead to drive GIS development across the organization, supporting environmental protection, climate adaptation, and sustainable growth. This role enables colleagues to meet ambitious environmental goals through modernized and well-managed geospatial services.

Reporting to the GIS Manager and Senior Team Leader, you will serve as one of two technical leads for the National GIS Team, collaborating with internal teams, DEFRA, and external partners to evolve and maintain Geospatial Services. You will coordinate delivery efforts with service leads and ensure enterprise GIS tools (Easimap, ArcGIS Pro, EAMaps, ArcGIS Online) are efficiently deployed and utilized.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the development and strategic direction of enterprise Geospatial Services.

• Coordinate tactical delivery of GIS projects and ensure alignment with organizational goals.

• Collaborate with colleagues across the EA, DEFRA, and external partners.

• Support the modernization and optimization of corporate GIS services.

• Provide technical expertise in ESRI products and geospatial workflows.

• Actively participate in incident response duties when required.

Required Skills & Competencies

• Experience delivering enterprise GIS/Geospatial Services.

• Strong strategic thinking and ability to set and communicate direction.

• Proven ability to coordinate and manage tactical delivery of projects.

• Experience working with ESRI software: ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Enterprise, ArcGIS Online.

• Excellent stakeholder management, leadership, and communication skills.

• Ability to improve business processes and deliver value for money.

• Capability to lead, mentor, and empower team members.

Qualifications

• Proven track record in GIS or geospatial technology delivery at an enterprise level.

• Strong technical knowledge of GIS systems, workflows, and tools.

• Leadership and project coordination experience within complex organizations.
