Witherby Publishing Group is a specialist publisher of marine training, reference and regulatory material for the shipping industry.

Witherbys publishes operational guidance and technical standards for the shipping industry, both digitally and physically. Based in Livingston, we are one of Scotland’s largest and most successful publishing companies. We work in collaboration with key industry bodies providing guidance to mariners.

Responsibilities

· Designing book covers for technical publications. These can range from industry specific sizes to bespoke pieces of work
· Creating Style sheets and Templates for our books that our typesetter will use to complete publications
· Creating 2D illustrations to communicate technical information
· Image manipulation using Photoshop to enhance, edit and create new imagery
· Liaising with the Marketing team regarding the design of their marketing material: catalogues, posters, leaflets, web images, emailers and exhibition material
· Working with our Charitable Trust to complete promotional material for different charities that may have their own brand guidelines in place
· Taking information from concept through to finished print ready documents
· Working with designers and typesetter to create, apply and maintain style guides
· Working with Technical Advisors and Editors to maintain industry-specific standards

Person Spec (Skills/Knowledge and Experience required)

· 3 years’ experience. The job is ideal for a Junior Graphic Designer making the move into a mid-weight role
· In-depth knowledge of Adobe InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop and Adobe Creative Cloud (PC based)
· Thorough knowledge of the print process (litho and digital)
· Knowledge of design industry standards and techniques
· Be capable of working to tight deadlines
· Be able to communicate clearly and ask for guidance when necessary
· Possess excellent attention to detail and the ability to read and apply editors’ notes
· Ability to follow strict instructions and also use initiative and creative resources when necessary
