Hardware Designer

Description:

A US-based AI hardware start-up is expanding into the UK and building a cutting-edge hardware team consisting of ASIC Designers, Verification Engineers, and Micro-architects. With a strong leadership team and a mission to drive the AI computing revolution, this is an exceptional opportunity to shape advanced hardware solutions from the ground up.

As a Principal Cache Coherency Micro-architect/Designer, you will play a crucial role in developing and enhancing the company’s Cashmere coherent fabric, contributing to the architecture and implementation of next-generation AI hardware systems that integrate CPUs, GPUs, and neural accelerators.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Serve as the lead micro-architect for the Home Agent (HA) block of the company’s Cashmere coherent fabric.

  • Develop a deep technical understanding of the CHI protocol and the Cashmere coherency architecture.

  • Analyse existing HA microarchitecture, implement performance, power, and area optimisations, and propose new enhancements.

  • Drive improvements in IP code base quality, reusability, and efficiency.

  • Execute key functional expansions, including CHI cache stashing support and Realm support.

  • Play a central role in multi-level coherency enhancements, ensuring architectural scalability and reliability.

  • Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams (software, hardware, performance, and verification) to ensure top-quality deliverables.

  • Participate in architectural and microarchitectural discussions, especially in developing CHI C2C (Chip-to-Chip) functionality.

Skills and Requirements:

  • Strong experience in cache coherency protocol design (CHI preferred) and microarchitecture for complex hardware systems.

  • Proven track record in SoC or ASIC hardware design and system integration.

  • Ability to work on high-performance and scalable interconnect fabrics.

  • Excellent knowledge of power, performance, and area optimisation techniques.

  • Strong problem-solving, analytical, and debugging skills.

  • Exceptional collaboration and communication abilities for working across global engineering teams.

Why Join:

  • Be part of a pioneering AI hardware organisation shaping the next generation of computing platforms.

  • Join during the early growth phase and gain the opportunity to influence architectural decisions from the outset.

  • Enjoy a competitive salary, bonus structure, and pre-IPO equity options.

  • Work in a remote and flexible environment with a world-class engineering team.
