Head Of Health And Safety

Description:

GS2 | B Corp™ is seeking an experienced and visionary Head of Health & Safety to join one of the UK’s busiest and most complex operational environments — a leading port that serves as a vital hub for trade, tourism, engineering, and logistics. This is an outstanding opportunity for a Health & Safety leader with strong strategic, cultural, and operational insight to influence change across one of the country’s most diverse risk landscapes.

As Head of Health & Safety, you will play a critical leadership role, shaping the future of safety culture across the organisation. You’ll be responsible for implementing forward-thinking strategies, championing proactive risk management, and fostering behavioural change programs that promote a truly people-centred safety ethos.

This role requires an innovative and dynamic professional who can engage with both senior leadership and front-line teams to embed safety excellence at every level.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the design and execution of a comprehensive, proactive Health & Safety strategy that enhances performance across multiple disciplines including engineering, logistics, maritime, and construction.

  • Promote a positive, people-focused safety culture where Health & Safety is embedded as a shared responsibility across the organisation.

  • Oversee compliance and risk management frameworks, ensuring alignment with national and international safety standards.

  • Drive behavioural and cultural change programs, including workshops, training, and leadership engagement.

  • Act as a key advisor to senior management, influencing safety priorities, performance metrics, and long-term strategy.

  • Lead, mentor, and develop a growing team of Health & Safety professionals.

  • Engage with external stakeholders, contractors, and regulatory bodies to uphold best practices and continuous improvement.

  • Monitor and evaluate performance through audits, incident investigations, and data-driven insights.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • Proven experience leading Health & Safety across multi-risk and high-complexity sectors such as maritime, infrastructure, transport, logistics, engineering, or manufacturing.

  • A Level 6 qualification or NEBOSH Diploma (or equivalent) is essential.

  • Demonstrated success in developing and implementing safety culture and behavioural change programs.

  • Strong leadership and communication skills, with the ability to influence at all organisational levels — from board executives to operational teams.

  • Strategic mindset combined with hands-on ability to execute safety initiatives in dynamic environments.

  • Comfortable managing autonomy while ensuring accountability within a collaborative team structure.

  • Based onsite at the Port (initially full-time onsite, moving to a hybrid model).

  • Willingness to occasionally work weekends or non-standard hours when required.

Why Apply:

This is an exceptional opportunity to make a lasting impact on one of the UK’s most iconic and operationally diverse environments. The position offers the chance to shape not only policies and systems but also culture — creating a safer, smarter, and more engaged workforce across all divisions.

You’ll be part of a forward-thinking organisation undergoing exciting transformation, where your leadership will directly influence the next generation of Health & Safety excellence.

  • 25 days annual leave + bank holidays

  • Additional benefits including:
