Square, a leading global financial technology company under Block, Inc. (NYSE: XYZ), is seeking an accomplished Head of Payment Partnerships & Executive Director (UK) to spearhead its payment strategy and executive leadership in the United Kingdom.

This high-profile role will combine strategic leadership, regulatory oversight, and partnership management responsibilities, directly influencing the direction of Square’s UK operations and contributing to its continued expansion across Europe. As Executive Director of Square’s UK business entity, the successful candidate will oversee all regulatory obligations as an e-money institution while building and managing strategic relationships with payment partners, financial institutions, and industry bodies.

The role offers a unique opportunity to lead at the intersection of commerce, payments, and innovation, working alongside global leaders to ensure Square remains at the forefront of the evolving payments ecosystem.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead Square’s UK operations as Executive Director of SEL Ltd., ensuring full compliance with all regulatory and governance requirements under the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA).

  • Develop and manage strategic partnerships with payment networks, banks, and financial institutions to drive innovation, flexibility, and business growth.

  • Represent Square’s brand within the UK and international markets, acting as a spokesperson with media, industry bodies, and government agencies.

  • Shape market positioning and competitive strategy to further Square’s payments products, services, and go-to-market initiatives.

  • Oversee and enhance financial operations, ensuring adherence to ISO, AML, and payment compliance frameworks.

  • Collaborate cross-functionally with product, finance, legal, and operations teams to align strategy and execution across the UK and Europe.

  • Drive new growth opportunities by identifying emerging trends, market entry strategies, and partnership expansion prospects.

  • Promote corporate governance excellence, reporting at or to Board level and ensuring transparent, ethical leadership.


Key Skills and Experience:

  • Minimum 15 years’ experience in the payments or financial services industry, with a strong background in product management and market expansion.

  • Deep understanding of UK regulatory frameworks governing payments and e-money institutions.

  • Demonstrated success in building high-value partnerships with payment networks, financial institutions, and fintech stakeholders.

  • Strong corporate governance experience, ideally reporting to or serving on a Board.

  • Excellent commercial negotiation and stakeholder management abilities, capable of navigating complex commercial agreements.

  • Strategic thinker with a proven ability to translate customer and market needs into impactful business outcomes.

  • Exceptional leadership and communication skills, capable of influencing senior executives, regulators, and cross-functional teams.

  • An entrepreneurial mindset with the drive to make a tangible impact in a fast-paced, evolving fintech environment.
