As part of its ongoing expansion at the Oxford Science Park, EIT is seeking a proactive and experienced Environmental, Health & Safety Officer to lead and strengthen its EHS functions within a cutting-edge pharmaceutical and biotechnology facility. This role will involve collaborating across R&D, manufacturing, QA, and facilities to promote a culture of safety, compliance, and continuous improvement.
Key Responsibilities:
Develop and maintain site-wide health and safety policies in line with UK legislation and industry best practices (HSE, COSHH, MHRA, COMAH).
Conduct health and safety risk assessments, audits, and incident investigations across laboratories, manufacturing, and facilities.
Ensure compliance with relevant laws, including the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 and COSHH regulations.
Work closely with QA, R&D, manufacturing, and HR to integrate safety into all operations.
Lead EHS training programmes for staff and contractors, including induction and refresher courses.
Manage hazards such as biological, chemical, radiological, and ergonomic risks in biotech and pharmaceutical environments.
Track and report KPIs on safety performance, compliance, and incident management.
Represent the company in external audits and inspections (HSE, MHRA, Environment Agency).
Support sustainability and environmental initiatives, including waste management and energy efficiency.
Requirements:
Qualification in Occupational Health and Safety or equivalent (essential).
Minimum 3 years’ experience in an EHS leadership role within pharmaceutical, biotech, or regulated industries.
In-depth knowledge of UK health and safety legislation and risk management in laboratory/manufacturing environments.
Experience with Biosafety/GM regulations.
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with changing priorities.
Desirable:
Knowledge of GxP standards and regulatory frameworks (MHRA, EMA, FDA).
Experience in environmental compliance or sustainability programmes.

Terms:
Full-time, permanent role, fully on-site (Monday–Friday).
Must have permanent right to work in the UK and live within commuting distance of Oxford.
Some extended hours and cross-time-zone collaboration may be required.
