Description:

The University of Sheffield is seeking a dynamic and strategic Individual Giving Manager to join its Campaigns and Alumni Relations Office (CAR). This role plays a pivotal part in driving philanthropic engagement by inspiring alumni and supporters to contribute gifts that transform student lives and advance world-class research at the University.

As part of the Individual Giving team, the successful candidate will design and deliver data-driven, multi-channel fundraising strategies targeting mid-value donors (£1,000–£10,000 annually). You will oversee donor acquisition and retention through personalized communication, project manage mass fundraising appeals, and create stewardship programs that build lasting relationships with supporters.

This position is ideal for a motivated fundraising professional who thrives on strategic thinking, creative communication, and stakeholder collaboration.


Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute a multi-channel fundraising strategy to drive mid-value giving (£1,000–£10,000 per year) through digital and direct mail channels.

  • Manage a portfolio of mid-level donors, engaging them through tailored communications and personal outreach to encourage sustained giving.

  • Make direct donation appeals for key University projects such as student scholarships, hardship funds, and medical research initiatives.

  • Project manage large-scale direct response fundraising appeals to solicit gifts at all levels, ensuring delivery within time and budget constraints.

  • Build and maintain relationships with internal stakeholders, agencies, and creative teams to ensure cohesive and impactful campaign execution.

  • Utilize data analytics and segmentation to identify target audiences, personalize appeals, and optimize fundraising performance.

  • Create stewardship materials, including donor impact reports, to maintain engagement and demonstrate the tangible outcomes of philanthropic support.

  • Collaborate with colleagues across CAR to nurture donor relationships and encourage progression through the giving pipeline.

  • Uphold the University’s ethical fundraising policies in all solicitations and communications.

  • Contribute to the team’s goal of raising up to £1 million annually, ensuring continuous improvement and innovation in fundraising practices.


Required Skills and Qualifications

  • Experience in fundraising, marketing, or creative communications with a focus on donor engagement.

  • In-depth knowledge of fundraising principles and a belief in the power of philanthropy in higher education.

  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and persuasion skills, both written and verbal.

  • Strong experience managing multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously.

  • Proficiency in using data insights for audience segmentation and personalized outreach.

  • Experience coordinating with multiple stakeholders to deliver print and digital campaigns.

  • High level of integrity, discretion, and professionalism when handling donor information.

  • Understanding of donor relationship management systems (experience with Raiser’s Edge CRM is desirable).

  • Experience mentoring or supporting team members is advantageous.

  • Work Arrangement: On-site, with hybrid and flexible options available.
