Foster + Partners, an internationally renowned and award-winning multidisciplinary consultancy, is seeking an Industrial Designer with specialization in furniture and product design to join their expanding team in Battersea, South West London. This opportunity offers the chance to work on innovative elements for major architectural projects, bespoke private commissions, and collaborations with leading design-driven brands to develop products for commercial manufacture.

The role calls for creativity, design sensitivity, and strong technical ability, along with practical workshop skills. The successful candidate will be involved in every stage of the design process, from concept sketches to technical development, as well as overseeing construction and liaising with manufacturers.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Work on industrial and furniture design projects within the department, while also acting as a consultant to architectural and interiors teams.

  • Develop design proposals and presentations using hand sketches, technical drawings, CAD models, and physical models.

  • Liaise with external design teams and manufacturers, overseeing construction and development of projects.

  • Take responsibility for specific design areas and project development as required by project leaders.

  • Assess needs for presentation models and coordinate with the model shop regarding material and time management, ensuring compliance with safety standards.

  • Support colleagues in workshop and machine tool environments.

  • Review industrial design work as part of internal review processes.

  • Construct sketch models and high-level presentation models for internal and client presentations.

Qualities and Skills Required:

  • Strong creative thinking and technical ability in industrial and furniture/product design.

  • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects.

  • Skilled in preparing design proposals using sketches, CAD, and graphics.

  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work both independently and collaboratively.

  • Flexible, proactive, and willing to take responsibility.

  • Ability to build strong working relationships internally and externally.

  • Knowledge of workshop safety guidelines and hands-on model-making experience.
