Job description
As an Integration Engineer, you will lead and own the following priorities:
- The discovery and initial assessment of technical solutions or services which already exist in the Scottish Public Sector or wider UK Government landscape.
- Engagement with each of the devolved benefits product owners to ensure business requirements and cross cutting alignment for any potential common technical component is factored in to any option appraisals.
- Engagement, liaison, and continuous dialogue with the Chief Digital Office architecture team, security team and SG Digital Directorate to ensure alignment of service provision and avoid duplication.
- Production and co-ordination of both Option Appraisal and Outline/Full Business Case documents to support programme and investment decisions.
- Procurement of technical components and support in conjunction with procurement colleagues.
- Technical oversight and supplier management during delivery of the chosen common (shared) components including cross government working, technical planning, and transition into live service operation.
- Transition into live operation, any common (shared) component, ensuring that design or service documentation is in place and underpinned by appropriate support and maintenance arrangements or a cross-government SLA if applicable.
- Speak on behalf of technical teams and facilitate relationships with a wide range of stakeholders.
- Make decisions characterised by managed levels of risk and complexity, resolving technical challenges between peers and indirect stakeholders, considering all views and opinions
- Use your experience and a combination of patterns, standards, policies, roadmaps and vision statements to drive, challenge and guide strategic decision making.
- Design systems characterised by managed levels of risk, manageable business, technical complexity and meaningful impact.
- Understand trends and practices outside of your team and how these will impact their work, including how your critical work fits into the broader strategy as part of the larger and overall programme of work.
Responsibilities
1. Extensive experience of integration design and implementation of high-quality services, with a working knowledge of continuous delivery principles; deployment pipelines, integration tools, version control, and artefact repositories.
2. Experienced in systems integration and architectural patterns/tactics including experience of Web Application Programming Interfaces (API's) and able to define highly available, resilient, scalable and fault tolerant end to end solutions including engineering with on-premise and third-party suppliers.
3. Extensive experience in system integration and messaging technologies such as SOAK, Micro services, ETL, Messaging and File Transfer, HTTP, XML, JSON, SOAP / RESTful web services.
4. A working professional knowledge of system quality attributes (i.e., security, performance, compatibility, resilience, and scalability) within an integration platform infrastructure and the ability to incorporate the use of these (CI/CD Pipeline, IAM, DevOps OSC etc.). Also a knowledge of AWS Cloud Services (and/or Dell Boomi).
