Intelligence Research Officer

 

Description:

The Environment Agency is seeking an Intelligence Research Officer to join the National Environmental Crime Unit (NECU), supporting the Agency’s mission to be intelligence-led in tackling environmental crime. Environmental crime is a strategic priority, attracting high-profile attention from national and international stakeholders.

In this role, you will proactively develop and access intelligence from multiple sources to inform decision-making, produce actionable intelligence products, and support interventions to remove unlawful operators from regulated waste regimes. You will contribute to investigations and ensure that threat, risk, and harm are appropriately assessed and managed.

You will be part of the Intelligence & Partnerships department, providing intelligence products and assessments to support colleagues across 14 geographical areas and national services.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collect, evaluate, and analyse data from a wide variety of sources to produce intelligence products

  • Prepare and deliver research summaries to inform decision-making

  • Support investigations and enforcement actions against environmental crime, including organised crime groups

  • Respond to incidents and provide business continuity support during emergencies

  • Work collaboratively within a dispersed team while maintaining professional relationships with partners

  • Flexible working and participation in incident response duties, with additional payment where applicable

Experience / Skills Required:

  • Strong data collection, interrogation, and analysis skills

  • Proficiency in standard IT packages and ability to retrieve information accurately

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • Ability to use initiative and adapt approaches when required

  • Teamwork skills with an inclusive, supportive approach

  • Ability to manage multiple administrative and research tasks effectively
