Hunter Bond, on behalf of a rapidly scaling FinTech company, is seeking a Senior Kafka/Java Architect for a 12-month fixed-term contract in London. Key Responsibilities:

• Design, develop, and maintain Kafka-based architectures and Java-driven distributed systems.

• Lead and mentor a team of junior engineers, ensuring high-quality code and best practices.

• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to architect and implement scalable solutions for new greenfield projects.

• Take ownership of end-to-end software development lifecycle, ensuring performance, scalability, and reliability.

• Drive continuous improvement through code reviews, automation, and DevOps integration.

• Work on low-latency systems, optimizing performance for high-throughput environments.

Required Skills & Experience:

• 6–20 years of professional experience in Java software engineering.

• Extensive hands-on expertise with Apache Kafka, including architecture, configuration, and optimization.

• Strong understanding of distributed systems and event-driven architecture.

• Proficiency in Java development with a passion for writing clean, efficient, and testable code.

• Experience with low-latency Java systems is highly desirable.

• Familiarity with Hadoop or related big data ecosystems is an advantage.

• Excellent problem-solving skills, with the ability to deliver high-quality work under minimal supervision.

• Strong communication and collaboration skills within agile development environments.
