Ktp Associate

Description:

The University of Warwick, in collaboration with Intelligent Imaging Innovations Ltd (3i), is seeking a highly motivated and qualified individual to fill the position of Smart Microscopy Developer (KTP Associate). This full-time, on-site role based in London is part of an exciting Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP) project, funded by Innovate UK. The role offers a unique opportunity to work at the intersection of artificial intelligence, smart microscopy, and life sciences research.

The KTP aims to transition a research-stage smart imaging prototype into a deployable, user-friendly product for global use. The technology will enable real-time deep learning-based classification of cellular activities, rapid 3D imaging, and seamless microscope automation—vastly improving speed and precision in bioscience and drug discovery research.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and embed AI models that enable smart detection of rare cellular events within live cell imaging data.

  • Build intuitive interfaces using large language models (LLMs) for seamless end-user experience.

  • Achieve full integration of AI functionalities with 3i’s proprietary microscope control systems.

  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams including cell biologists, AI researchers, and software developers.

  • Lead the technical delivery of the KTP project, balancing expectations from both academic and industry stakeholders.

  • Effectively communicate complex scientific and technical findings to varied audiences.

Required Qualifications & Skills:

  • Education: PhD in Computer Science or Interdisciplinary Biomedical Sciences with focus on machine learning for biomedical image data.

  • Technical Experience: At least 3 years’ hands-on experience working with various microscopy modalities, particularly live cell imaging.

  • Proven experience developing deep learning models for biomedical data classification using Python.

  • Familiarity with smart microscopy workflows and AI integration in hardware control environments.

  • Proficiency in building user interfaces for ML tools.

  • Strong project management and communication skills.

  • Experience working in collaborative, interdisciplinary environments is essential.

Desirable Qualifications:

  • Experience in deploying machine learning models across different imaging systems.

  • A background in product development and UX/UI design for scientific software.

  • Familiarity with commercial deployment and scaling of AI-powered bioscience tools.
