Lead Pic Design Engineer

IC Resources is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Lead PIC Design Engineer to take a pivotal role in the creation and advancement of next-generation photonic solutions, particularly tailored for AI workloads and data centre applications. This position, based in Oxford, offers the opportunity to lead innovative projects in photonic integration, driving the performance of optical interconnect technologies to new levels of speed, efficiency, and scalability.

As the PIC Lead, you will play a central role in designing, developing, and optimizing high-performance Photonic Integrated Circuits (PICs). You will collaborate closely with cross-disciplinary teams including experts in packaging, electronics, and systems design to ensure seamless end-to-end integration and performance. The role demands a balance of technical depth, innovation, and leadership in managing complex design workflows and delivering breakthrough optical solutions.

Key Responsibilities:

• Lead the design, simulation, and architecture development of advanced Photonic Integrated Circuits optimized for AI and data centre environments.

• Manage layout, verification, and validation workflows, ensuring high reliability and performance of PICs.

• Interface effectively with electronics, packaging, and systems teams to maintain performance and integration consistency across subsystems.

• Oversee the tape-out, fabrication, and lab testing phases, ensuring compliance with project goals and specifications.

• Contribute to strategic development decisions, guiding the direction of PIC innovations within the organization.

Requirements:

• MSc or PhD in Photonics, Electrical Engineering, or a related discipline.

• Proven experience in PIC design for high-speed optical communication systems, preferably within silicon photonics.

• Proficiency in industry-standard EDA tools such as Lumerical, Synopsys, and IPKISS.

• Strong understanding of photonic device physics, fabrication processes, and integration with electronic systems.

• Excellent leadership, project management, and cross-functional collaboration abilities.
