Double Eleven, an award-winning UK game developer based in Middlesbrough, is hiring a Lead Programmer to join its expanding team. As Lead Programmer, you will be responsible for leading a skilled programming team and delivering high-quality, cutting-edge gameplay experiences. This role includes working on Unreal Engine 5 projects, managing technical execution, mentoring developers, optimizing systems, and ensuring the technical direction of the project aligns with both company and client expectations. You will serve as a key liaison across multiple departments including design, art, production, and publishing.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Design, develop, test, and maintain game code and systems to an exceptional standard.

  • Review code quality and provide constructive feedback through team code reviews.

  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to bring game features to life.

  • Lead and mentor a team of programmers, supporting both personal development and project delivery.

  • Define and track project roadmaps in coordination with production teams.

  • Represent the technical team in client meetings, offering solutions and ensuring alignment.

  • Ensure performance optimization and efficiency in large-scale systems, particularly for multiplayer gameplay.


Qualifications & Skills:

  • Advanced proficiency in C++ programming.

  • Experience in a leadership programming role within the games industry.

  • Hands-on expertise with Unreal Engine 5 (UE5).

  • Background in multiplayer game development and system optimization.

  • Solid understanding of project roadmapping and risk mitigation.

  • Strong communication skills, especially across departments and client teams.

  • Proven ability to mentor and lead a team effectively.

  • All relevant technical qualifications will be considered.
