Ysgol Y Deri, part of Vale of Glamorgan Council, is a forward-thinking and innovative special school dedicated to supporting children and young people with a wide range of learning needs. With over 444 pupils on roll, ranging from ages 3 to 19, the school provides education for learners with severe learning difficulties, profound and multiple learning difficulties, moderate learning difficulties, social, emotional and mental health needs, and autistic spectrum disorders.

Due to expansion, the school is seeking dynamic and motivated Learning Support Assistants (Level 3) to join its growing team. The role involves providing academic and emotional support to pupils both in small groups and in 1:1 settings. Successful candidates will play a crucial role in helping children engage with a lively, person-centred curriculum designed to inspire and empower them to reach their full potential.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support pupils with a wide range of additional learning needs (ALN) across curriculum subjects.

  • Deliver and assist with both group and individual academic lessons.

  • Help students engage in meaningful, life-affirming learning experiences.

  • Balance high support with high challenge to encourage growth and independence.

  • Serve as a positive role model, maintaining enthusiasm while ensuring appropriate boundaries.

  • Incorporate ICT effectively into classroom practice.

  • Work collaboratively as part of a committed and ambitious school team.

Requirements:

  • A passion for working with children and young people, with patience and resilience.

  • Strong understanding of learners with ALN and/or social, emotional, and mental health needs (advantageous but not essential).

  • Ability to support and inspire students to thrive and achieve.

  • Excellent classroom practice and high expectations for pupil engagement and success.

  • Strong teamwork, communication, and role modelling skills.

  • Enhanced DBS check required (Child and Adult Barred List).

  • Registration with the Education Workforce Council (EWC) is mandatory.
