Legal Counsel

Description:

Cynergy Bank is seeking an experienced Legal Counsel to support its strategic growth and transformation initiatives. This pivotal role involves delivering comprehensive legal advice across a diverse portfolio including commercial lending, product development, regulatory compliance, and corporate governance. The role reports directly to the Group General Counsel and Company Secretary, offering a high-impact position with exposure to senior leadership and strategic projects.

Key Responsibilities:

• Deliver comprehensive legal advice across all commercial and lending documents including product terms.

• Assist the Group General Counsel in handling a wide array of complex legal issues.

• Provide legal counsel on strategic business initiatives and ongoing bank operations.

• Monitor and assess legal and regulatory changes, ensuring necessary adaptations in banking practices.

• Help enhance departmental capabilities by identifying process improvements and efficiencies.

• Foster effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders across all departments.

• Represent the Legal department in key transformation and business projects.

• Support compliance functions and company secretarial duties when required.

• Supervise and mentor junior legal team members.

Essential Requirements:

• Qualified Solicitor or Barrister with a current practising certificate from the Solicitors Regulation Authority (SRA).

• Minimum 5 years of post-qualification experience (PQE) in England and Wales.

• Proven expertise in banking law, commercial transactions, and high-pressure lending matters.

• Strong drafting, negotiation, and stakeholder management skills.

• Excellent verbal and written communication.

• Proactive and collaborative approach with flexibility to adapt in a fast-paced environment.

Desirable Experience:

• Previous in-house legal experience at a bank or financial institution.

• Practical understanding of commercial banking, financial services, and lending practices.

• Familiarity with asset finance and Consumer Credit Act (CCA) matters.

• Broad legal exposure across various financial, regulatory, and corporate areas.
