Description:

The Democratic Progress Institute (DPI), a prominent NGO dedicated to conflict resolution and democratic development, is seeking Legal Interns to join its International Law Department. This internship offers a unique opportunity for legal professionals, researchers, and postgraduate students to gain hands-on experience in the field of international human rights and humanitarian law, particularly in relation to conflict resolution and the implementation of European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR) judgments.

The internship is voluntary and unpaid, with placements based at DPI’s office in Clerkenwell, London, though hybrid or virtual arrangements may be possible. DPI is currently recruiting for immediate placement or for a start date of 10 June 2025, with applications considered on a rolling basis.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct legal research on international human rights and humanitarian law

  • Analyze and monitor ECtHR judgments and their implementation, especially in Turkey

  • Assist in preparing legal communications for submission to UN bodies and the OSCE

  • Draft and edit legal papers, casework documentation, and internal legal reports

  • Support the organization and documentation of legal resources

  • Provide administrative and editorial assistance to the legal team

Candidate Requirements:

  • Law graduates, qualified lawyers, or postgraduates with a strong academic background in international law

  • Fluency in English is mandatory; additional fluency in Turkish or French is highly preferred

  • Strong analytical, research, and writing skills

  • Able to work independently and collaboratively

  • Well-organized, attentive to detail, and proactive in supporting team objectives

  • Must have the legal right to work in the UK if working on-site
