Linesperson

Description:

SSEN is looking to expand its Southern Electric Power Distribution team with experienced Linespersons. This vital role places you at the heart of the electricity network, delivering essential construction and repair work across the distribution infrastructure, helping power homes and businesses safely and reliably.

As a Linesperson, you will be responsible for working on various electrical networks — from low voltage (LV) systems up to 11kV and 33kV high voltage lines. This position offers an excellent opportunity for skilled professionals to grow their career within a well-established and sustainable industry, with ongoing development and authorisation prospects.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform construction, maintenance, and repair work on electricity distribution networks, covering a range of voltages from LV to 33kV.

  • Ensure all work is carried out safely, acting as an ambassador for SSEN’s strong safety culture by adhering to best practices and safety guidelines at all times.

  • Respond rapidly and efficiently to emergency situations such as power outages, storms, or faults to restore power and minimize customer disruption.

  • Work outdoors in all weather conditions and be prepared to undertake standby duties outside normal working hours, including short-notice callouts during severe weather or network incidents.

  • Maintain and operate electrical plant and equipment to the highest technical standards.

Required Skills and Experience:

  • Possess recognised overhead line qualifications relevant to Distribution Network Operators (DNO) in the UK or overseas, including expertise in LV, HV, 11kV, and 33kV systems. Experience or qualifications in 11kV Live Line working will be highly advantageous.

  • Demonstrated experience in the construction, repair, and operation of electrical distribution equipment.

  • A strong commitment to health and safety, embedding SSEN’s safety culture in every task.

  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to clearly explain technical matters to colleagues and stakeholders.

  • Enthusiasm, flexibility, and a proactive approach to adapting work priorities and duties according to changing business needs.

  • Ability and willingness to undertake out-of-hours standby duties and emergency callouts.

  • Full UK driving licence is essential for this role.
