Description:
The Times is seeking a Live News Editor responsible for delivering a distinctive live content package for The Times and The Sunday Times websites. The role involves editing breaking news, improving online copy, pictures, graphics, and video, while ensuring all output aligns with Times and Sunday Times editorial standards.
Key Responsibilities:
Manage productive relationships with news editors, planning editors, the wider news desk, and production editors
Oversee workflow for homepage stories, agreeing with desks and chasing copy
Use SEO, Inca, Parsley, and Google Trends for decision-making and headline construction
Present the homepage in news conferences when required
Monitor the day’s content across all sections and homepage placement
Collaborate with the planning editor to anticipate major stories
Cover other shifts across the news desk as needed
Utilize social media and digital platforms for content generation and promotion
Requirements:
Proven experience in digital news editing for national or major news organisations
Strong interest in news and current affairs
Ability to work accurately under pressure and to tight deadlines
Excellent interpersonal, presentation, and problem-solving skills
Proficient in using social media for audience engagement
Strong understanding of editorial compliance and regulatory issues
Experience working collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams
