The University of Salford is offering an exceptional opportunity for a dedicated Specialist Case Adviser (Hate Crime and Racism) to join its Student Support Team. This vital role is part of the Respect, Culture, and Behaviours team, which focuses on providing compassionate and effective support to students who have experienced hate crime, sexual violence, domestic abuse, bullying, or harassment.

As the lead specialist for Hate Crime cases, you will serve as the main point of contact for both students and colleagues seeking guidance and intervention. You will contribute to developing a university culture of respect, inclusion, and safety, ensuring that Salford’s diverse student community feels supported and valued.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Serve as the primary specialist on hate crime cases, offering expert advice and intervention strategies to colleagues and students.

  • Support students experiencing hate crime, harassment, domestic abuse, stalking, or sexual violence with empathy and professionalism.

  • Promote a culture of zero tolerance toward hate, discrimination, and violence across the university community.

  • Collaborate with the Student Union, university departments, and external partners to strengthen support networks and response mechanisms.

  • Contribute to the development of institutional policies, training materials, and guidance related to equality, diversity, and student safety.

  • Provide insights and critical perspectives to improve Salford’s equity, diversity, and inclusion strategies.

  • Work with individuals from a wide range of cultural and personal backgrounds to deliver culturally sensitive support and advocacy.


Ideal Candidate Profile:

The ideal candidate will have experience working in student support, social services, or advocacy roles, particularly with vulnerable populations or victims of hate crime. You should possess strong interpersonal and crisis-management skills, along with an ability to communicate effectively with people from diverse backgrounds. A deep understanding of equality legislation and safeguarding practices will be highly valued.
