Description:
Our research ships are built to carry out oceanographic research in the most extreme and remote oceanic environments on planet Earth. They support complex, multidisciplinary, multi-investigator research, and include state-of-the-art technology and instruments to provide research needs across all oceanographic disciplines (https://noc.ac.uk/facilities/ships).
The Marine IT Technician therefore plays a vital role operating, maintaining and troubleshooting the IT infrastructure of these ships, which is essential for a successful research expedition. The successful candidate will be responsible for the day-to-day support of the onboard IT infrastructure, working with and providing guidance to onboard and ashore teams, and liaising with external contractors to find solutions to network issues onboard. They will also take a leading role in the planning and preparation of any IT infrastructure maintenance and upgrade works required throughout the year, with a particular focus on vessel refit periods.
The Marine IT Technician will not be required to go to sea, though some travel to the vessels for refit and planned maintenance works is anticipated.
