My client are hiring a Mechanical Design Engineer with 5 years + experience, ideally we really need someone who has experience with machined parts and geometric tolerancing.

This role is critical to the successful performance of the Mechanical Team, so expectation is of a minimum of 5 years of experience working in an engineering design environment using the essential skillset stated.
Daily Duties:
- Working alongside a team of Mechanical Design Engineers.
- Monitoring projects through the lifecycle design process.
- Supporting the Production Department with new product release, production and supply issues.
- Product development of marine seismic and offshore equipment for use subsea, on deck and control room.
- Generating new concept work, developing existing products, prototyping, in-house & external environmental testing, seeing products through to production, supporting during production builds & operation.
- Contribute as a mechanical design engineer within the engineering team primarily based on electro-mechanical products - 19” rack mounted enclosures, subsea electronics enclosures, umbilical terminations and associated assembly tooling.
- Checking of design documentation (BOMs, technical drawings, assembly instructions, manuals, test documents).
- Creation of Bill of Materials, part models, assembly models, detailed drawings, Engineering Change Notes, assembly instructions, component requests, department procedures, test specifications and analysis calculations.
Initial projects:
- Familiarisation and support of the product portfolio.
- Support in the design of 19” rack instrumentation room products - sheet metal construction, PCB support and fit, cable routing options.
- Support in the design of mechanical enclosures for PCBs for use in a marine subsea environment - ‘O’ ring sealed low pressure (100psi) units.
- Design and development of ancillary products for subsea cables.
Essential skills:
- Degree in Mechanical Engineering (Minimum 2:1)
- Proven track record of working within a multi-discipline design team.
- Strong knowledge and experience in developing mechanical and electro-mechanical products.
- Produce detailed drawings to BS8888 or equivalent using SolidWorks and detailed checking of other engineers / CAD operator drawings. A willingness to improve the overall standard of the detailed drawings produced within the department.
- Ability to analyse designs to verify that products are fit for purpose - including FMEA and FEA, along with hand calculations and MathCAD.
Desirable skills:
- Use of Product Lifecycle Management software.
- Experience of working with PCBs and cabling.
- Experience with high pressure air applications.
- Ability to write department procedures and rules based on relevant standards.
- Experience of designing for the marine environment / knowledge of the seismic industry.
- Additional CAD design experience using CREO beneficial.
