Responsibilities of the Mechanical Design Engineer include:
- Interpreting customer specifications to produce practical design solutions to meet design or maintenance requirements.
- Ensuring designs are correctly transformed into engineering drawings, Bills of Materials, test procedures, ensures manufacturability of design incorporating engineering change control.
- Using computer aided design/modelling software to create drawings.
- Presenting project reviews, writing reports, and providing specifications and drawings.
- Undertaking design verification including risk & failure analysis, fault tree analysis, design reviews & calculations to establish a full design verification package (DVP).
Essential skills and experience required for the Mechanical Design Engineer:
- Honours degree in a relevant subject (Masters preferred).
- Experience of Thermal, Shock and Vibration Design and Simulation using SolidWorks.
- Proven ability to work in small multi-functional project team.
- Demonstrable professional experience of the full lifecycle of mechanical product development.
- Experience with 3D CAD modelling.
Desirable skills and experience:
- Mechanical and Electronic Assembly design.
- Experience in the design of batteries, chargers or power supplies.
- Reliability Engineering (FMEA and MTBF analysis etc).
- Experience of designing various components including plastics, sheet metal, injections moulding and die castings.
