Description:

The Environment Agency is seeking a MEICA Advisor – Mechanical Engineer to join their South East MEICA team. This hybrid role is key to maintaining and enhancing the performance of flood risk pumping stations, water control structures, and other critical assets. You will provide technical leadership, assure design and technical standards, and guide MEICA activities across a diverse range of assets, supporting the protection of homes, businesses, and the environment amid climate change challenges.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide specialist mechanical engineering advice and technical leadership on MEICA projects.

  • Plan, prioritize, and deliver maintenance or replacement of critical assets.

  • Monitor quality and compliance with safety, legal, environmental, and operational requirements.

  • Liaise with internal teams, external contractors, and stakeholders to ensure efficient MEICA operations.

  • Participate in incident response duties and support the agency in flood or environmental emergencies.

  • Generate technical documentation, ensure regulatory compliance, and oversee approval processes.

  • Mentor and guide junior team members in MEICA activities.

Required Skills & Competencies

  • Strong knowledge of engineering legislation, British and European standards.

  • Experience in safety investigations and implementing learning from incidents.

  • Familiarity with Root Cause Analysis, reliability engineering, process improvement, and preparation/review of technical specifications.

  • Effective communication and coordination skills with internal and external stakeholders.

  • Ability to provide technical guidance and act as a customer single point of contact for MEICA projects.

Qualifications

  • Educated to a minimum of HNC/D or degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.

  • Full UK Driving Licence is essential due to hybrid and multi-site working.

  • Professional registration (I-Eng or C-Eng) preferred but not mandatory.
