Mechanical Technician

 

Description:

Carrington Power Station, located near Manchester and comprising 2x440 MW Combined Cycle Gas Turbines (CCGTs), is seeking a motivated Mechanical Technician to join their maintenance team. The role requires a proactive and skilled individual capable of multitasking, meeting deadlines, and supporting the development and motivation of team members.


Key Responsibilities

  • Perform maintenance on mechanical equipment related to the power plant and its auxiliary systems, adhering to the highest safety standards.

  • Work collaboratively within the mechanical maintenance team, utilizing the work management system effectively.

  • Troubleshoot and maintain mechanical assets according to your specialist discipline.

  • Maintain accurate maintenance records using the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS).

  • Supervise and direct contractors as required.

  • Write and implement procedures and working instructions to ensure consistency and safety.

  • Comply with corporate and statutory safety, environmental regulations, and obligations.

  • Fulfill authorized safety roles under site-specific safety rules.

  • Participate in an on-call rotation to respond to maintenance and operational issues promptly.


Essential Qualifications and Experience

  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience in mechanical maintenance.

  • Experience liaising with statutory bodies and contractors.

  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to prioritise tasks effectively.

  • Good IT skills.

  • Time-served apprenticeship.

  • Relevant engineering qualification at craft level or higher.


Desirable Skills and Knowledge

  • Understanding of mechanical, heavy rotational equipment, pressure systems, and power generation.

  • Experience in project management or strong planning skills.


Reporting Line

  • This position reports directly to the Mechanical Team Leader at Carrington Power Station.
