Mental Health Practitioner

 

Description:

This role offers a unique opportunity for healthcare professionals with a core qualification in Occupational Therapy, Speech and Language, Mental Health Nursing, or Social Work to work with children and young people up to 18 years old. The practitioner will manage a defined caseload, provide assessment, treatment, and discharge planning, and coordinate care across multidisciplinary teams to improve mental health and wellbeing.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Undertake assessments and formulate plans for intervention for children and young people with complex mental health needs

  • Work collaboratively with patients, carers, and multi-disciplinary teams

  • Deliver evidence-based therapeutic interventions in line with NICE guidelines

  • Manage a caseload autonomously within the service

  • Liaise with internal and external agencies to ensure coordinated care

  • Promote patient-centered involvement and therapeutic relationships

  • Participate in duty and assessment teams, providing ongoing intervention for assigned cases

Qualifications:

  • Essential: Recognised professional qualification in Nursing (RMN/RSCN, RNMH), Social Work (CQSW/DipSW), or Occupational Therapy

  • Desirable: Qualifications in Psychological Therapies (CBT, SFT, IPT), Mentorship course ENB998 or equivalent

  • Current UK professional registration (NMC, HCPC, SWE, or BABCP)

Experience:

  • Essential: Experience working with people with mental health difficulties, risk assessment and management, evidence-based care planning, and working with multi-agency teams

  • Desirable: Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS) experience, community mental health, delivering interventions for young people and families

Skills:

  • Essential: Up-to-date knowledge of child mental health and relevant legislation, ability to assess and manage care, reflect on practice, manage caseloads independently, organize and prioritize work

  • Desirable: Experience delivering training, demonstrable therapeutic skills, IT competence, understanding of research processes

  • Applicants must have current UK professional registration
