Description:
Essex County Council is seeking community-oriented and responsible individuals to serve as Mobile School Crossing Officers on a part-time and permanent basis across multiple Essex locations. This is a crucial role ensuring the safety of children and families crossing roads during school times.
As a Mobile School Crossing Patrol Officer, you will play a vital role in your community by helping ensure safe passage for pedestrians, especially school children, at designated crossing points. Officers must be able to work during the 39 weeks of the academic year, with 5 hours per week guaranteed pay, plus additional hours depending on the need. This is a community-based role, and you must have access to your own vehicle and business insurance to travel between sites.
Responsibilities:
Stop traffic safely to allow pedestrians to cross, giving clear signals to drivers.
Remain alert and observant, especially to assist individuals with disabilities or limited mobility.
Assess potential risks and report hazards, accidents, or incidents at crossing locations.
Maintain and care for all issued uniform and safety equipment.
Prepare reports for any incidents involving failure to stop or accidents at crossings.
Requirements:
Ability to engage positively with the public, particularly school-aged children and families.
Access to a vehicle and appropriate insurance for business travel is essential.
Must be punctual, dependable, and committed to road safety.
Must hold a valid UK driving license.
Available during term-time school drop-off and pick-up hours.
Physically able to stand for extended periods in outdoor conditions.
