Music Technology Teacher

Description:

Surrey Arts, part of Surrey County Council and the county’s leading provider of youth music services, is hiring a Peripatetic Music Technology Teacher for a permanent, salaried role. This exciting position involves delivering high-quality music technology instruction to children and young people in schools and community settings across Surrey.

You will play a key role in bringing music education to life through creative and technology-driven approaches, inspiring students to express themselves musically. The position may include individual, small group, and potentially whole-class teaching, delivered during school hours, after school, or on weekends.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver engaging one-to-one and small group lessons in music technology across various schools and venues.

  • Potential to increase working hours based on demand, with a minimum commitment of 15 hours/week for 33 weeks/year.

  • Provide instruction that encourages student creativity, independence, and technical proficiency.

  • Ideally teach a second instrument (e.g., guitar, piano, or drums) — although music technology only will be considered for the right candidate.

  • Travel across Surrey as needed to fulfil teaching assignments.

  • Adapt teaching styles and genres to match student needs and interests.

  • Contribute to wider Surrey Arts music programs and public events.

Candidate Requirements:

  • Recognised music degree/diploma or equivalent professional experience.

  • Ability to use a range of music technology tools and platforms in teaching.

  • Confident in preparing students for music examinations (where applicable).

  • Excellent classroom and one-on-one teaching skills, adaptable to varied student abilities and backgrounds.

  • ICT literate with strong interpersonal skills and a collaborative mindset.

  • Committed to safeguarding, inclusion, and student welfare.

  • Willingness and ability to travel across Surrey.

Benefits Include:

  • Annual salary paid in 12 monthly instalments, including during school holidays.

  • Teachers' Pension Scheme with a 28.68% employer contribution.

  • Comprehensive sick pay (3 months full pay, 3 months half pay in a 12-month period).

  • Employee Assistance Programme (EAP) for health and wellbeing.

  • Volunteering leave, carer’s leave, adoption and paternity leave.

  • Paid professional development opportunities including workshops, masterclasses, and specialist training.

  • Discounts across retailers, transport, health, and leisure.

  • Involvement in high-profile youth gala events and concerts.
