Description:
This role is multidisciplinary and underpins the laboratory support operations provided by Avantor Services, enabling R&D scientists to concentrate on their core role. The main function of the Analytical Sciences group is to provide analytical testing support (Physicochemical and Bioassay) for novel proteins products used in clinical and non clinical formulations, and R&D applications. This role is primarily lab-based, focusing on the delivery of both general and scientific technical support to the Analytical Sciences laboratories in accordance with SHE guidelines and General Laboratory Standards.
Key Tasks & Responsibilities
- Providing support for the Analytical Science laboratories (Physicochemical and Bioassay) by maintaining established sample management systems. Tasks include the following:
- Fridge/Freezer organisation and maintaining sample location inventories
- Management automated freezers
- Aliquoting of materials based on DLMS testing requests, as required
- Management of DLIMS sample status for incoming samples
- Management of Ref Standards and GLP-tox Drug Substance supplies
- Critical reagent (CR) bulk stock aliquoting/labelling and Qualified CR stock level management
- Aliquoting, vialing and labelling of materials eg Mock linearity, Cell banks
- Knowledge of materials requiring shipment and acting as a “science point of contact” for Avantor shipment coordinators
- Liaising with the AZ Gaithersburg sample management group for coordination of incoming and outgoing materials
- Providing co-ordination of testing at external laboratories/subcontracted services eg Bioburden testing
- Ensuring compliance of activities performed, in adherence with defined schedules and quality systems/processes within the specified areas. Act and report on deviations
- Authoring reports and procedural documents as required
- Implementing and promoting AstraZeneca and Avantor Health and Safety practices at all times
Skills, Knowledge & Competencies
- Educated to HND or BSc in a Life Science or associated area.
- Ideally, will have some laboratory-based experience (eg. biological sample handling)
- Enthusiastic, flexible and willing to learn
- High level of attention to detail
- Outstanding communication skills on all levels and problem-solving capabilities with the confidence to react promptly to deliver the best service possible
- Good organisational and planning skills
- Proven excellent customer service focus and ability to work collaboratively
- Good time management skills, ability to flex and handle multiple responsibilities and tasks on a regular basis
- Able to work independently and as part of a team
- An understanding of how the Avantor Services team interacts internally and externally within the organisation and how they contribute to the objectives of the business
- Sound IT skills (including Microsoft Word/ Excel)
