Outreach Officer

 

Description:

The Outreach Officer will be responsible for co-ordinating and supporting the delivery of the BAM project. This exciting project aims to inspire young people to study STEM subjects through partnering schools with UoB academics for short investigative science projects. The post holder will be responsible for building and managing relationships between UoB researchers and school leaders. They will have oversight of project activities across the colleges of Life and Environmental Sciences, Medical and Dental Sciences and Engineering and Physical Sciences. They will work with a small team of researchers from schools within these three colleges to achieve the project aims and will be based in the School of Chemistry.

The post holder will assist researchers in developing partnerships with a local school, including facilitating contact, developing outreach project ideas and managing an outreach budget. They will coordinate data collection on the project and assist in writing reports on the outcomes.

As part of a pilot Royal Society-funded project, the person appointed to this role will benefit from a broad network of expertise in outreach across EPS, LES and MDS.

Main Duties

The post holder will be responsible for the delivery of the BAM project. They will:

  • Develop and organise an innovative programme of activities in line with the aims of the programme. Ensure effective management of the activities (i.e. in relation to activity information, coordinating transport, volunteers, liaising with schools).
  • Develop and maintain excellent working relationships with schools participating in the programme. Act as the main contact for all liaison activity for the programme.
  • Evaluate the success of events using appropriate feedback and evaluation methods.
  • Support the recruitment process for programme volunteers, including academics to partner with schools and students to volunteer on school visits.
  • Maintain accurate records of metrics, report on outcomes, make evaluations and contribute to future planning of activities.
  • Be able to inspire and engage young people in STEM subjects with their creativity and presentation skills.
  • Work collaboratively with academic staff and students across the University on delivery of partnership grant projects.
  • Develop and maintain high quality effective relationships with key internal and external stakeholders.
  • Ensure the Partnership Grant pilor programme is communicated effectively both externally and internally, collaborating with colleagues in the University teams.
  • Produce marketing collateral in accordance with University branding guidelines, working with ChemBAM and the BAM project.
  • Build and maintain a social media presence to promote the programme.
  • Understand and apply all necessary aspects of GDPR.
  • Manage the general administration for the programme, including any appropriate budgetary activity.
  • Collaborate with the University’s central Outreach team, co-ordinating efforts where appropriate.
  • Carry out other delegated duties as may reasonably be required by the line manager.
  • The post holder must be prepared to work away from the normal place of work as required throughout the year.
