You’ll lead the execution of our monthly payroll process. As a critical business process, it requires precision, timeliness and accuracy. Working closely with our third party payroll provider and internal teams to deliver flawless payroll on a monthly basis, you will ensure all instructions are accurately and compliantly processed and validated. You’ll constantly be looking for ways to enhance processes, reduce risk and improve controls.

You’ll make sure we remain focused on doing the right thing for our associates whilst ensuring our processes effectively manage risk and support business needs.

What you’ll do

Own delivery of the payroll process, to include:
 

  • Managing payroll processes and effective execution of controls, ensuring they continue to operate effectively to allow delivery against the process requirements and legislation.
  • Continual evolution of processes, controls, enhancements and risk mitigations. Identify opportunities for continuous improvement and drive change and efficiencies.
  • Assessing the impact of payroll legislative changes - designing and implementing changes required to maintain process compliance.
  • Consult on payroll impacts of other strategic changes - (e.g benefits strategy) - ensure any necessary changes are designed and implemented.
  • Evaluate monthly payroll performance, producing robust metrics and reports for governance.
  • Ensure all required inputs are collated, validated and submitted in accordance with the payroll cycle.
  • Ensure key payroll outputs have been processed/calculated in accordance with the instructions, UK legislation and/or Capital One policy.
  • Ensure all complex incoming payroll issues/queries/requests are resolved sustainably
  • Manage the performance of the payroll third party, build and maintain strong relationships as required.
  • Partner with the wider Shared Services team and HR function to make sure we deliver a joined up, co-ordinated HR service to our associates.
     

2nd Line Payroll Risk Management:
 

  • Deliver on organisational expectations in relation to critical business process methodologies (Annual process reviews, Process Level Assessments).
  • Ensure key payroll controls are captured in prime and tested periodically.
  • Act as a Data Steward for Payroll and perform required activities.
     

What we’re looking for

To succeed in the Specialist Services team, you’ll need the following experience & skills:
 

  • Previous experience of managing a payroll, either outsourced or in house, able to demonstrate strong technical payroll and income tax knowledge
  • Advanced google sheets/excel skills
  • Minimum of GCSE Maths grade C or equivalent
  • A detailed knowledge of statutory payments and legislation
  • An understanding of the impacts benefits have on payroll
  • Demonstrable success in executing complex HR processes
  • Proven ability to identify and implement process improvement opportunities
  • Organised, diligent, disciplined and curious
  • Keen attention to detail Prepared to challenge the status quo and identify and drive through improvement opportunities which improve how we deliver our services
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills with a talent for delivering sometimes complex information in a clear, concise and understandable manner
