Portfolio Underwriter

 

Description:

Allianz Personal Broker have a new opportunity for a Portfolio Underwriter, you can work from our Brentwood, Guildford or London offices on a hybrid basis. This will be one day per week in the office and one day per month within the London office.

As our Portfolio Underwriter, you will contribute towards the delivery of Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), through the underwriting and analysis of relevant products in the market, whilst maintaining technically excellent standards and building up relationships with both internal and external customers.. Our Portfolio Underwriters handle complex portfolios, upholding underwriting authority at all times and delivering excellent service to our customers.

Key Accountabilities
 

  • Adheres to Underwriting Authority and an awareness of the impact portfolio decisions have on Profit and Loss and the achievement of plan.
  • Delivers KPI targets to deliver the high level line of business strategies.
  • Provides technical knowledge and insight to internal & external stakeholders
  • Ensures up-to-date knowledge and understanding of all relevant compliance and regulatory rules and procedures.
  • Handles internal and external customer queries, dealing with them in an efficient, practical and professional manner, both verbally and in writing.
  • Provides feedback and insight about our products to assist in the development and maintenance of the product.
  • Liaises with all other appropriate internal parties including Sales and Distribution, Pricing and Reporting, Claims and Operations.
     

Essential Skills
 

  • Proven ability to analyse large amounts of data across multiple platforms in order to produce portfolio recommendations for underwriting rules, classifications and price point
  • Proven ability to understand key underwriting concepts and principles.
  • Proven experience of negotiation and influencing skills.
  • Understanding of the key elements of regulation and legislation that exist within the general insurance market place.
  • Understands the skills and tools required for effective analysis and has the ability to use these to propose relevant changes
  • Understanding of the skills and tools required for effective Underwriting and has the ability to use these key skills to underwrite risks profitably.
  • Understands internal and external provider processes and how this may impact on product delivery and performance.
  • Aware of causes and costs of claims and risk management tools and their application.
  • Awareness of relevant legislation by Line of Business.
  • Expert level knowledge of Excel and working knowledge of SAS/ SQL/ Radar/ Databricks & PowerBI
  • Full working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Outlook.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication and negotiation skills.
  • Aware of client/broker classification plus competitors, comparable products and pricing.
     

Desirable Skills
 

  • Experience of working within a general insurer environment with proven experience of personal responsibility for portfolio management and evidence of managing the appropriate performance KPIs.
  • Understanding of the key elements of regulation and legislation that exist within the general insurance market place.
  • Account management / able to liaise and negotiate with both internal and external stakeholders
  • Experience of Willis Towers Watson software such as Radar
