We are looking for two exceptional individuals to join our Centre for Biomedical Engineering and Medical Technology at the University of Dundee as a Postdoctoral Research Assistant (PDRA) in Biomedical Engineering.

Research in our biomedical engineering and medical technology research group develops novel optical- Ultrasound imaging devices to understand and explore the mechanisms of tissue response, which in turn, help to support research initiatives on tissue characterization and interventional medical devices including ultrasonic surgical tool design and characterization; sono- and optical- elastography for medical diagnosis; and image guided and robotic assisted interventions. The group brings together a wide range of expertise including: medical ultrasound, imaging-guided intervention; photonics; optical coherence tomography (OCT); elastography; and tissue engineering.

The post offers exciting opportunities to work closely with researchers and academics in the Centre for Biomedical Engineering and Medical Technology during the R&D aspects of the project, as well as participation in wider collaborative research activities with other project partners and stakeholders.

Your priorities will include:

  • Develop focussed deep learning approach and experimental characterisation of tissue using ultrasound and OCT based imaging method
  • Design and fabricate ultrasound transducers and support the collection of experimental data that will be input into CE marked devices for clinical studies
  • To write progress reports and prepare results for journal publication and dissemination via presentations, conference presentations and formally to research sponsors and collaborators
  • To collaborate closely with our partners at Northeastern University, China and Assist in external collaborative research activities (e.g. steering group meetings, knowledge exchange) and the provision of strategic research outputs (e.g. journal papers, conference presentations) aligned to the project objectives

Who we’re looking for:
Applicants should have, or be about to obtain, a PhD, and have a solid background in engineering

  • Experience in any of the following research areas would be particularly advantageous: medical ultrasound, imaging analysis, OCT, instrumentation, tissue characterisation
