Description:

Crisis, the national charity dedicated to ending homelessness, is seeking a highly motivated and compassionate Neighbourhood Team Prevention Caseworker to join their Brent-based team. This role is designed to deliver upstream prevention by working in partnership with Brent Council’s newly established Neighbourhood Team in Harlesden. The position focuses on early intervention to prevent homelessness and income insecurity for individuals who may not currently engage with services or meet statutory criteria.

As the first point of contact for at-risk individuals, the Caseworker will provide holistic, person-centred support including information, advice, guidance, advocacy, and coaching. Through proactive outreach, relationship building, and strengths-based assessment, you will help individuals identify solutions, access services, and improve their income security to prevent potential homelessness.

You will be responsible for creating person-centred support plans, building psychologically informed relationships, and collaborating with various stakeholders and service providers to address barriers and achieve sustainable outcomes. Your role will be integral in driving Crisis and Brent Council’s place-based approach to ending homelessness.


Key Responsibilities

  • Act as the initial point of contact for individuals at risk of homelessness in Harlesden and surrounding areas.

  • Deliver high-quality information, advice, guidance, and coaching to support individuals in resolving financial insecurity and related issues.

  • Conduct strengths-based assessments and create tailored action plans with individuals.

  • Engage in outreach activities to connect with vulnerable individuals who may not currently access services.

  • Build and maintain strong, collaborative relationships with stakeholders, external agencies, and integrated neighbourhood teams.

  • Advocate on behalf of clients to secure access to services and resources.

  • Manage a varied caseload effectively, balancing competing priorities and exercising sound judgment under pressure.

  • Ensure compliance with safeguarding policies and procedures.

  • Actively contribute to the organisation’s mission of ending homelessness and uphold Crisis’ and Brent Council’s values.


Qualifications & Skills Required

  • Relevant sector experience (homelessness, mental health, substance misuse, social care, education, youth work, or community development).

  • Experience in delivering advice, guidance, or coaching (Level 3 Information, Advice and Guidance or equivalent qualification desirable, or willingness to work towards one).

  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and advocacy skills.

  • Proven ability to assess needs, plan actions, and review goals effectively.

  • Knowledge of barriers to engagement faced by vulnerable groups and strategies to overcome them.

  • Ability to manage a varied workload independently and as part of a team.

  • Commitment to safeguarding and equality, diversity, and inclusion principles.

  • Empathy, resilience, and dedication to supporting vulnerable individuals.
