Pegasus Group is seeking a Principal Economics Consultant to join its vibrant London office, offering a remarkable opportunity for an experienced and driven professional to lead impactful projects that shape communities and support sustainable economic growth across the UK. This role is perfect for an individual with deep analytical skills, project leadership experience, and a passion for delivering strategic insights that inform development decisions and public policy.

As a Principal Economics Consultant, you will take ownership of complex economic and social impact projects, providing expert advice to clients across sectors such as residential, regeneration, retail, logistics, energy, leisure, and urban development. You will lead economic appraisals, funding strategies, and socio-economic assessments, ensuring that every project aligns with sustainability and community enhancement goals.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage a range of complex economic and socio-economic projects from inception to completion.

  • Conduct economic appraisals, including Benefit-to-Cost Ratio (BCR) and Value for Money (VfM) analyses.

  • Prepare business cases and develop funding solutions in line with HM Treasury’s Green Book principles.

  • Assess social value and wellbeing impacts generated by development schemes.

  • Oversee and manage socio-economic inputs for planning submissions, such as:

    • Socio-Economic Benefits Statements

    • Environmental Statement (ES) chapters

    • Health Impact Assessments (HIA)

    • Employment and Skills Strategies

    • Equality Impact Assessments (EqIA)

  • Present findings and insights to clients, stakeholders, and at professional events, conferences, and seminars.

  • Supervise junior consultants, supporting their professional growth and technical development.


Qualifications and Skills Required:

  • Degree (or equivalent) in Economics, Human Geography, or a related discipline.

  • Proven experience in economic consultancy, planning, or policy analysis.

  • Strong technical knowledge of economic appraisal methodologies and social value assessment.

  • Excellent analytical, written, and presentation skills, with the ability to communicate complex ideas clearly.

  • Experience managing multidisciplinary project teams and client relationships.

  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with wider teams.
