Principal Mechanical Engineer

You will be involved in some of the UK’s most innovative and intricate Datacentre projects. As our new Associate/Principal Mechanical Engineer, you will be working as part of a team, leading the technical delivery of the mechanical designs, engaging in a high level of coordination and collaboration with your electrical counterpart and leading the client facing role on the projects under your leadership. You will be both guiding and checking technical work of mechanical engineers supporting your projects and undertaking an element of the critical design production yourself as required to meet each project’s needs.

The design work will be to the required standards and maintain excellent levels of client service.

Engineering within the Data Centre Facilities Team as a Mechanical Engineer, is about developing highly resilient Mechanical systems required to cool and support the critical processes within Modern Data Centres, both sustainability and reliably.

You will be involved in the design and delivery of primary mechanical systems such as cooling, ventilation, automation & control and a wide range of ancillary support systems. You will also develop a rich understanding of building physics, CFD and sustainable design solutions that will inform the Data Centre Facilities engineering design principles.

You will be part of a team which has a strong focus on technical delivery and an excellent understanding of client care.

You will become a part of the Data Centre Facilities team within the Buildings department. Your role will allow you to collaborate with all disciplines, providing growth and knowledge to enhance your engineering competence.

Your key responsibilities and abilities will be:

 

• To take the lead role representing Ramboll on Datacentre projects leading your own discipline and managing engineers of a complimentary discipline
• Ability to drive project delivery using your own initiative with minimal supervision on all technical aspects of your discipline
• Ability use design production tools to develop solutions (CAD, Bluebeam, calculations, collaboration with BIM technicians)
• Complete detailed designs and supervise the work of others in this function
• Have an ability to inspire confidence both internally and externally, and then use this to strengthen client relationships
• Commit to and manage project delivery timelines
• As project Mechanical lead, co-ordinate the tasks so all deadlines are met and allocate resource appropriately

• Being a qualified Engineer having a proven and demonstrable track record in their discipline
• Having previous experience working with mission critical systems within the datacentre industry or similar industries with critical engineering aspects; (e.g. Pharmaceutical, health care, enterprise datacentre installations, etc.)
• Having a CIBSE / IET / IMechE Engineering Council accredited honours degree, or an HNC in an applicable discipline with commitment to continue with higher education.
• To have achieved or working towards IEng or CEng status
• To be an excellent communicator and possess to the ability to make what is complicated simple
• To have an interest in or experience using digital and parametric design tools
