Principal Safety Case Engineer

 

Description:

Working within the Clyde Design Authority, the Principal Safety Case Engineer is responsible for ensuring that a Fit for Purpose safety case is in place to support key defence nuclear activities related to nuclear powered warships and nuclear weapon systems.

The post holder will act as an authority for the design and safety of nuclear activities in a given Facility, briefing seniors, operators and regulators and working with other UK partners as required.

To achieve this, we will offer significant opportunities to develop your knowledge of nuclear activities and designs through both formal training and on-site familiarisation

Responsibilities

As the Design Authority Safety Case lead for a Nuclear Facility you will be responsible for:

  • *Acting as the Intelligent Customer for Contractor delivery of Nuclear Reactor, and Nuclear Weapon safety cases, ensuring these are consistent with current good practice and regulatory requirements.
  • *Leading the delivery of the HMNB Clyde Periodic Review of Safety programme and subsequent implementation of shortfalls.
  • *Leading a small team of Safety Case Engineers.

In addition, you will support the development and assessment of HMNB Clyde Policy and Standards, ensuring they are consistent with regulatory requirements and expectations.

Skills and Experience:

  • *Safety Case delivery, including Hazard Analysis, demonstration of ALARP, and ensuring the validity of claims, arguments and evidence.
  • *Presenting to Safety Committees, such as an Authorisee's/Licensee's Nuclear Safety Committee (NSC)
  • *A track record of making intelligent evidence based decisions using various sources of data.
  • *The ability to effectively manage and prioritise your own and a team's workload.
  • *Minimum of Engineering Council degree in an engineering/science subject (or equivalent qualification or experience).
