Description:
The Principal Sales Engineering role will support Account Executives in new and existing partner relationships, as well as direct business, in order to grow revenue opportunities. Rocket Software Sales Engineers are experienced technical professionals with extensive enterprise software sales background who can successfully act as the technical sales lead on software opportunities to progress and close business. The role requires working effectively as a member of a dynamic team, while also having the ability to work independently.
Key Responsibilities:
Relate to customer challenges and provide clear, non-technical, value-based solutions.
Present solutions to customers and partners with or without sales support.
Support partners in all aspects of the sales process.
Convey technical details to non-technical audiences and foster credibility with technical audiences.
Qualify business opportunities by understanding user requirements and technical environments.
Provide ongoing mentoring and guidance on software components, design techniques, methodology, and delivery to partners.
Participate in training and mentoring activities for Sales Engineering team members.
Handle objections professionally; answer questions quickly and coherently; deal with challenges assertively and persuasively.
Self-manage assignments and administrative tasks; manage multiple projects from start to finish.
Engage with other business areas, including product marketing and product development, to ensure Rocket is seen as the vendor of choice.
Qualifications:
Minimum 3+ years of relevant sales engineering experience.
Excellent presentation, verbal, and written communication skills.
Strong problem-solving and requirements gathering abilities.
Highly motivated, detail-oriented, and adaptable to new technologies.
Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team.
Comfortable working in dynamic and sometimes unstructured environments.
Capable of prioritizing and managing workload to meet deadlines.
Technical Skills:
Operating Systems: Microsoft Windows Server (2019, 2022, 2025), Linux, HPUX, AIX (preferred), z/OS (JCL, CLIST, REXX, ISPF, SDSF), AS/400 / IBM i
Cloud & Container Technologies: Docker, Kubernetes, AWS, Google Cloud Services (GCS), and other cloud platforms
Database & Storage: MS SQL Server, Oracle, PostgreSQL, IMS, relational/non-relational database design, storage management software
Programming & Scripting: PowerShell, JavaScript, Python, RESTful API development
Preferred: Multilingual proficiency (English and another language)
