Description:
As a Process Engineer you will be working within a multi-disciplinary team to ensure the safe and robust transfer of lab-scale processes to a kg lab/ pilot plant facility in Cambridge for the production of advanced homogeneous transition metal catalysts and ligands.
Your responsibilities:
- Work with development and pilot plant teams to provide engineering input and advice into process scale-up of batch reactions.
- Carry out process safety assessments following development scale investigations in readiness for scale-up
- Work closely with chemists and carry out engineering calculations for process development, unit operations and utility systems
- Participate in hazard studies for chemical processes and equipment installation
- Prepare and review operating procedures for pilot plant and associated equipment
- Prepare and review process documentation for catalyst and ligand manufacture
- Operate hands-on in the pilot plant from 10 L to 100 L scale
- Supervise maintenance of plant, ensuring safety and compliance
- Lead, plan and supervise installation and commissioning of new and existing equipment and operations
- Carry out any other duties which are within the employee’s skills and abilities whenever reasonably instructed.
Requirements for the role:
- Master’s Degree or PhD in Chemical Engineering – Essential
- Experience of scale up of chemical processes to Kg/Pilot scale in an industrial environment – Desirable
- Innovative, self -motivated and able to work as an individual and in a team – Essential
