Process Engineer

 

Description:

This is a practical role, where you will be working in the R&D laboratories alongside chemists and analysts to generate process understanding that underpins the successful scale-up and commercial industrialisation of our medicines.

Your focus will be to combine your strong knowledge of biopharmaceutical engineering principles and processes (including simulation/modelling) to develop robust, scalable, sustainable manufacturing processes. As projects transfer to pilot plant facilities (to support clinical trial delivery) or to manufacturing facilities (as part of commercialisation), you will be required to provide support as the R&D engineering technical expert at these facilities globally.

GSK’s Stevenage R&D site accommodates over 2,000 R&D staff, and this hub of scientists inspires a culture of innovation and collaboration. Additionally, GSK R&D is IChemE ACTS Accredited, and the Process Engineering group sponsors and supports chemical engineers to achieve Chartered Chemical Engineer status. GSK’s Stevenage R&D site benefits from excellent facilities and easy access to London, Cambridge and beyond due it’s excellent road and rail links.

In this role you will:

 

  • Design and perform downstream purification experiments to develop process understanding against fast paced project timelines.
  • Think creatively to optimise engineering solutions and de-risk the scale-up of manufacturing processes.
  • Ensure that experimental work is communicated effectively at internal R&D meetings.
  • Participate in technology transfer activities as appropriate to GSK manufacturing partners.
  • Stay current with the latest developments and technological improvements to maintain GSK’s technical competitiveness.
  • Author or contribute to internal documentation relevant to the role.
  • Comply with applicable Data Integrity, Quality, cGMP (current Good Manufacturing Practice) and regulatory requirements in all aspects of work.
  • Fully embrace all aspects of safety when working in the laboratory.

Essential Qualifications & Skills:

We are looking for professionals with these required skills to achieve our goals:

 

  • Hold a MSc/MEng or PhD degree in Biochemical Engineering, Chemical Engineering or a related subject such as Biochemistry/Biotechnology OR have a demonstrated history of developing and scaling up bioprocessing unit operations.
  • Keen interest in developing practical experience of oligonucleotide downstream processing unit operations (as typically found in biopharmaceutical processing).
  • Clear written and oral communication skills with experience working in a multidisciplinary team.
