Description:

The successful candidate will be responsible for managing programmes within the newly established Institute of Resilient Health Systems (IRHS). The Institute of Resilient Health Systems (IRHS) is a new initiative aiming to build on and extend LSTM’s health systems research, education and knowledge exchange programmes. The IRHS is led by co-directors Prof Miriam Taegtmeyer and Dr Joanna Raven.

The successful candidate will also be responsible for managing Institute grants, including C-it Du-it: a health systems study examining the potential of digital health and quality improvement methods to support community health workers and pregnant women in Western Kenya. Led by Kenyan PIs, C-it DU-it is one of the Institutes current core grants.

The post holder will be responsible for the operational and financial management of the Institute. This will include programme and administrative management, financial management, strategy development, proposal development, recruitment, contracting and communications.

Key deliverables will include (but not be limited to):

  • Strategic duties: Establish the Institute of Resilient Health Systems; map existing health system strengthening grants and activities across LSTM and global hubs; implement robust and transparent governance structures; Establish funding mechanisms to develop and refine funding strategies; Support the development of an Institute strategy
  • Financial Management: Monitor budget and report on expenditure; Manage financial budgeting, forecasting and reporting of partners and review finance reports; Ensure funders’ procurement processes are adhered to and in compliance with contractual requirement
  • Programme Management: Programme manage institute grants; Establish and maintain relevant documentation systems for projects; Write progress reports, including reports to funders and partners; Implement and manage project risk registers and risk management processes
  • Communications and Events: Develop tools and templates to support project communications; Manage social media and websites; Organise and manage events such as stakeholder engagement workshops and academic conferences and workshops

The ideal candidate will have excellent interpersonal skills, be solution-focused with the ability to influence and build relationships with a wide range of stakeholders. You will be able to demonstrate:

  • Educated to Degree Level
  • Proven experience of management of complex and international research programmes
  • Experience of managing capacity strengthening initiatives and the ability to build organisational and staff capacity
  • Experience of developing strategic plans and governance structures
  • Experience of bid development, including writing grant proposals
  • Understanding of the challenges of managing research programmes in mid and low-income countries
