Description:
National Grid Electricity Distribution (NGED) is seeking a Project Engineer to join its Major Projects Maintenance team, based in Stoke-On-Trent or Tipton. This role is vital in ensuring the safe and efficient delivery of inspection, maintenance, fault repairs, and construction activities across the 132kV network in the West Midlands. The position is essential to maintaining the reliability and safety of electricity distribution systems serving over 8 million people across the Midlands, Southwest England, and South Wales.
Key Responsibilities:
Manage and control project work involving plant, overhead lines, and underground systems.
Ensure strict compliance with Construction and Design Management (CDM) 2015 regulations.
Manage, maintain, and repair the 132/33/11kV network across the region.
Demonstrate expertise in underground cables, overhead pylons, substations, and protection schemes.
Handle procurement, contractor management, and network-related risk management.
Act as a Senior Authorised Person (SAP) performing operational duties up to 132kV.
Optimize network availability through effective outage management and contingency planning.
Conduct maintenance and problem-solving on existing plant and equipment.
Lead commissioning and maintenance of protection systems.
Ideal Candidate Profile:
Possesses Level 3 City & Guilds 2339 qualification and willingness to pursue HNC Electrical and Electronic Engineering or Foundation Degree in Electrical Power Engineering if not yet attained.
Holds SAP authorization up to 132kV with solid operational experience.
Highly motivated, adaptable, and capable of working independently under pressure.
Excellent communication and coordination skills with a strong focus on safety and quality.
Must have a valid driving licence and willingness to travel across the service area.
May be required to participate in standby duties as part of a rotating schedule.
