Project Manager

Description:

Balfour Beatty plc is inviting applications for a Project Manager to join their Living Places team based in Buckinghamshire, working in Aylesbury with a hybrid working model. This role is ideal for someone who wants to build a fulfilling career within one of the UK’s leading infrastructure and construction companies, with support from experienced professionals and continuous learning opportunities.

As a Project Manager, you will be responsible for overseeing and managing the planning, allocation, and delivery of highway maintenance and related works. Your daily activities will include detailed review and validation of incoming works, ensuring all job packs and relevant information (such as Traffic Management forces) are complete. You will liaise closely with work originators to resolve queries and collaborate with supervisors and construction teams to optimize resource sharing and project efficiency.

You will attend stakeholder meetings regularly and conduct site visits to determine and clarify the scope of works with clients. Effective communication with residents and alliance team members will be critical throughout the work delivery to maintain transparency and customer satisfaction.

Your responsibilities will also extend to managing labour, plant, and material resources effectively while controlling and driving the project programme to meet timelines. You will be tasked with performance management, including productivity reporting, mitigating operational challenges, and supporting monthly operational reports. Identifying emerging talent and ensuring succession planning within your team will also be part of your leadership duties.

Financially, you will support the commercial team with cost recovery efforts, including ‘hot costing’ to maintain profitability of cost centres. The role requires embedding IT solutions to ensure accurate and timely information capture by operatives and subcontractors.

In your client-facing role, you will handle queries related to the work stack and planned or completed works and provide timely and accurate reports to the alliance team.

The ideal candidate will have proven experience in highway maintenance contracts, with detailed knowledge of street lighting maintenance. Relevant certifications such as NERS/HERS are important. Strong interpersonal and organisational skills, adaptability to changing environments, commercial awareness including understanding SLAs and KPIs, and proficiency in IT systems such as Confirm and Excel are required.

Balfour Beatty offers a highly flexible and inclusive working environment, with benefits including flexible hours, remote working options, generous leave policies, family-friendly benefits, pension schemes, and much more. The company is committed to diversity and inclusion, supporting employees from all backgrounds and abilities, including veterans and people with disabilities.
