Essex Partnership University NHS Foundation Trust (EPUT) is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Charge Nurse (Registered Mental Health Nurse - RMN) to join its Perinatal Mental Health Service based in Chelmsford. This role offers a unique opportunity to make a meaningful difference in the lives of mothers, infants, and their families during one of the most critical and sensitive stages of life.

The successful candidate will play a key leadership role in delivering high-quality, evidence-based mental health care to women experiencing acute mental illness during the perinatal period. This position involves working collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams to ensure optimal care and recovery outcomes for both mother and baby.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and support the specialist care of women suffering from acute mental health conditions during the perinatal stage.

  • Provide leadership in developing and implementing treatment approaches for mothers and infants based on evidence-based practices.

  • Collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary professionals including psychiatrists, psychologists, midwives, and family support teams to ensure holistic and family-centered care.

  • Offer guidance and supervision to nursing staff and contribute to professional development within the team.

  • Participate actively in continuous service improvement and innovation initiatives.

  • Promote and maintain a safe, supportive, and therapeutic environment for patients, their infants, and families.


Preferred Qualifications and Skills:

  • Registered Mental Health Nurse (RMN) qualification and valid NMC registration.

  • Prior experience in perinatal mental health, family-centered care, or parent-infant interventions is highly desirable.

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills to foster collaboration with families and multidisciplinary teams.

  • Ability to demonstrate compassion, empathy, and resilience in a demanding healthcare environment.

  • Commitment to continuous professional development and evidence-based practice.
