Description:

Bio News, a free web- and email-based digest focused on news and opinions in assisted conception, human genetics/genomics, and embryo/stem cell research, is seeking a Science Editor to join their small team. The role can be performed from the London office or remotely.

The Science Editor will be responsible for upholding standards of clarity and scientific accuracy in all BioNews articles. This will involve researching, writing, and editing articles on relevant scientific and policy topics, and managing a team of volunteer writers. Additionally, the Science Editor will oversee the news writing scheme for trainee writers, provide feedback on their work, and be involved in publishing articles on the PET website. They will also manage the weekly BioNews email newsletter distribution.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Uphold high standards of clarity and scientific accuracy in articles

  • Research, write, and edit articles on topics related to assisted conception, genetics/genomics, stem cell research, and science policy

  • Liaise with BioNews volunteer writers and provide necessary guidance and feedback

  • Manage and teach the news writing scheme for trainee writers, offering both written and oral feedback

  • Edit and proofread articles submitted by writers and publish them on the PET website using a content management system

  • Manage and distribute the weekly BioNews email newsletter using CRM software

Ideal Candidate Profile:

  • Degree in a biological science subject

  • Experience in researching, writing, and editing articles for publication

  • Well-organized and self-motivated with excellent written and oral communication skills

  • Experience in science communication or journalism is highly desirable

Offer Includes:

  • 2 days per week (Monday and Friday), 9:30 am – 5:30 pm

  • Flexibility to work from home or in the London office
