Sector Commercial Director

Description:

Galliford Try Infrastructure is offering a unique leadership opportunity for a Sector Commercial Director to oversee and drive the strategic direction and operational effectiveness of its Local Authority business stream. This role is critical for ensuring the successful commercial leadership of regionally focused infrastructure projects, supporting more than 100 local authorities across the UK.

The role involves managing commercial strategy, compliance, stakeholder relationships, and team performance, all while contributing to the overall objectives of the wider Infrastructure division. The successful candidate will act as a senior commercial leader within the business, providing vision, strategic input, and strong commercial governance.

Key Responsibilities:

• Lead the commercial function for the Local Authority sector, aligning it with company objectives and growth strategies

• Ensure adherence to commercial, legal, and governance frameworks including NEC, IChemE contracts

• Provide senior-level contractual and commercial guidance on tenders, disputes, and insurance claims

• Drive commercial performance, profit optimization, and effective risk/change management across the sector

• Develop robust systems for commercial control, procurement, and contract administration

• Lead high-performing commercial teams, including recruitment, development, and performance management

• Build and manage client, partner, and supplier relationships including within joint ventures

• Represent Galliford Try at senior leadership forums and external engagements

• Embed company values around health, safety, quality, and sustainability across all operations

Candidate Profile:

• Extensive experience leading frameworks in infrastructure, particularly with local authorities

• Exceptional commercial acumen with deep contract law knowledge and negotiation experience

• Strong leadership and mentoring capabilities for large commercial teams

• Skilled communicator with board-level presence

• Degree-qualified in Quantity Surveying or Commercial Management

• CSCS accreditation and a valid driving license required
