Description:

We are seeking an enthusiastic and professionally registered optometrist to join the Division of Pharmacy and Optometry as a Senior Clinical Teacher. This is an opportunity to play a key role in shaping the next generation of optometrists by delivering high-quality clinical and practical teaching, supervising students in patient-facing environments, and supporting them to develop the knowledge, confidence and professional judgement required for effective practice. Working alongside academic, clinical and professional services colleagues, you will contribute to a supportive, collaborative teaching environment.

The successful candidate will bring applied knowledge of optometry practice, experience of clinical or practical teaching/supervision, and a clear commitment to patient safety, clinical governance and professional standards. You will be assured communicating clinical information, providing constructive feedback, supporting student learning needs and contributing to the smooth running of teaching clinics, including flexibility outside of term time where required. This is a full‑time, fixed‑term post for 12 months, from 1 September 2026 to 31 August 2027, based at the University’s Oxford Road campus.

You will be responsible for:
 

  • Delivering teaching and assessment in Physical Geography at undergraduate and postgraduate levels
  • Contributing to lectures, seminars, tutorials, laboratory and field classes
  • Teaching on specified course units, including Climate Change: Past, Present and Future, Concepts in Stratigraphy and Geochronology, and Environmental Monitoring, Modelling and Reconstruction Field Course
  • Supervising and assessing undergraduate and postgraduate dissertations and providing academic advice to students
  • Developing and updating teaching materials and delivering content via the Canvas digital learning platform

About You

Essential Criteria
 

  • A PhD in Physical Geography or a closely related discipline (completed or near completion)
  • Evidence of distinctive research or scholarship in Physical Geography
  • Teaching experience in Physical Geography, including planning and delivering lectures, seminars or practical classes

Desirable Criteria

  • Experience supervising undergraduate or postgraduate dissertations
  • Experience using Canvas or other digital learning platforms
  • Evidence of engagement in continuing professional development related to teaching
