Senior Data Engineer

Description:

A long-established multinational organisation in the food sector is seeking a Senior Data Engineer to join its data infrastructure function in Trowbridge, near Bristol. The company operates in a data-rich environment, serving hundreds of customers across its network, and is now looking for an experienced professional to help build and maintain robust, scalable, and reliable data systems.

As a Senior Data Engineer, you will play a critical role in ensuring data quality, consistency, and availability across the organisation. The role involves working extensively with Azure and Databricks, deploying data models, building ETL processes, and supporting cross-functional data teams. While the role is predominantly technical, you will also mentor and support junior team members such as graduates and apprentices.

Key Responsibilities:

• Manage and enhance data infrastructure to ensure reliability, scalability, and consistency across the business.

• Support the deployment of data models using Databricks and PySpark.

• Build, validate, and manage ETL pipelines across diverse datasets.

• Collaborate with analysts and data teams to deliver internal development requirements.

• Provide mentoring and technical guidance to junior engineers and apprentices, ensuring best practices are followed.

Requirements:

• Strong SQL skills with proven experience handling large datasets.

• Practical experience with Azure and Databricks.

• Knowledge of PySpark for model deployment and data processes.

• Previous experience in consumer services, insurance, or other data-intensive industries is advantageous.

• Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
