Description:
We have an excellent opportunity for a highly motivated and skilled Network Support Engineer to join our team in Glasgow or Galloway. As a Network Engineer, you will be responsible for providing technical network support for customer industrial facilities within the UK. Maintaining the network infrastructure, resolving incidents, dealing with service requests, patching, and supporting project related workstreams. As a result of a change of network and ownership, candidates will be required to document and support the network infrastructure. Candidates will have previous relevant experience in Data and Voice networks, WAN (desirable) and LAN Network Technologies, Firewalls and Security, event management and other network operational tools.
Location
- Hybrid Working – the Engineer will need to be physically onsite at various locations across Scotland to carry out installations, maintenance and to complete project deliverables, however they can work remotely at other times
What you’ll do
- Support the day-to-day operation and support of the LAN Infrastructure within the UK sites
- Diagnosing and resolving network related issues either affecting the Network infrastructure which is based on Cisco LAN technologies and Checkpoint / Palo Alto Firewalls
- Provide Network technical support for various business and internal projects, ensuring that the network deliverables and milestones are met
- Managing 3rd party suppliers as required to maintain the Network services
- Ensuring network equipment, Switches and firewalls are patched and upgraded in a timely manner as per policy to latest stable versions
- Responsible for securing network, firewalls by establishing cohesive rules and policies, and defining and monitoring access
- Acts as escalation point for technical issues for other teams in the business
- Continue to review and improve the technology solution or knowledge base allowing issues to be fixed on first touch and minimising client downtime
- Follow all processes and procedures including change controls, incident management and security policies
- Maximize network performance by monitoring, troubleshooting problems and outages
- Work to SLAs to ensure that we meet business expectations. Communicate early and clearly if these SLAs are expected to be missed
- Be a true team player, working professionally and constructively with colleagues offering help and assistance with incidents, requests, problems, and projects
What to bring
- A solid background of working in a network technical support function at 3rd line level
- Preferably CCNP certified or able to demonstrative technical hands-on knowledge at that level
- Hands on experience configuring / supporting Cisco switches (IOS, IOS-XE, Nexus etc.) and Firewalls
- Hands on experience configuring / supporting Checkpoint Firewalls
- Previous experience in support large scale networks across multiple sites
- Any experience supporting PLCs or Scada would be desirable
- Any experience with configuring / supporting other vendors such as HP / Palo Alto is desirable
- Any experience with IT infrastructure (Servers, VMs etc.) is desirable
- Ability to plan and prioritise own workstreams and deliver to SLAs and tight deadlines
- Proven ability to operate in a pressurised situation and successfully handle multiple priorities
- Excellent communication skills enabling interaction with all levels of the business (including written and oral communication where appropriate)
- Customer focussed, service driven with evidence of planning and delivering projects and services on time.
- Working knowledge of ITSM practices
- Flexibility to carry out work outside of normal operating hours to complete changes and/or planned maintenance
- Willingness to participate in an on-call rota to provide Out-of-Hours support for major incidents relating to the Network
